Now accepting troubled boys and girls, and their families in crisis, who receive therapy, education and support, often through an intensive residential program that lasts for 6-12 months, with an end goal of Family Preservation and Restoration.
Students return home on weekends to practice the things they have learned, with the main carers attending regular counselling sessions and each family establishing a set of goals they wish to achieve.
The Salesian ‘Preventive System’ [built upon the ideas of presence, preventive, plan, professional, positive, personal, parental involvement and play] influences, animates and directs all interactions with the children, who also get the chance to attend a Year 7-10 ‘special’ school [that is unlike the regular school these students may have responded unhappily to in the past], but which stresses an individual’s transition back into the mainstream.
Formerly the original Boys’ Town, inspired by a model of ‘behavior management intervention’ that believes that all young can/do change.
